Indications:
Ethambutol kills certain bacteria which causes tuberculosis. This drug is combined with other anti-TB drugs to treat tuberculosis and prevent the spread of infection. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to take:
Ethambutol is taken as directed by the physician. It is in tablet form to be taken by mouth usually once a day every morning. For more detailed information please see label and please consult specialist. Do not take more Ethambutol than is indicated at the label without consulting a doctor.
Precautions:
Inform doctor of any allergies to ethambutol or any other drugs before taking ethambutol. Also inform the doctor of any medication taken especially vitamins and antacids. Some medicines interfere with ethambutol hence making it less effective. It is recommended to take Ethambutol 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids. Doctor should also be informed of the patients medical condition especially cataract, gout and kidney diseases. This drug is known to be excreted in breastmilk therefore use only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Consult doctor before breastfeeding.
