Indications:
Alesse is indicated to prevent pregnancy in women. It contains female hormones that prevent ovulation and also causes changes in cervical mucus and uterine lining, to make it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
To maximize the contraceptive effect, Alesse must be taken exactly as prescribed and at intervals not exceeding 24 hours. It is recommended to take this medicine at the same time each day.
The dosage is one pink tablet every day for 21 consecutive days, followed by one lightgreen tablet daily for 7 consecutive days or according to the prescribed schedule.
The first pill must be taken on either the first Sunday after the onset of menstruation or on Day 1 of menstruation.
Precautions:
During the first cycle, use a back-up method of birth control until a pink tablet has been taken for 7 consecutive days.
Before taking Alesse make sure you are not pregnant, because it can cause birth defects. Inform your doctor if you become pregnant using this medicine of if you miss two menstrual periods in a row.
You should wait at least 6 weeks before starting Alesse if you are breast-feeding.
Your doctor may prefer to prescribe a different medicine for you if you have a history of a stroke or blood clots, circulation problems (especially caused by metabolic deaseas such as diabetes), a hormone-related cancer such as breast or uterine cancer;
abnormal vaginal bleeding, severe liver diseases or high blood pressure.
