Information

Indications
This medication is often used in patients with Vaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infections due to Candida), Oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis.
Diflucan can also be used to prevent fungal infection in people with weak immune systems caused by cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases like AIDS.
Diflucan may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
How to take
The dose depends on the infection you are treating. Diflucan is administered orally, with or withoud food, usually together with a glass of water.
Precautions
Never use this medication if you are allergic to fluconazole, or similar drugs such as clotrimazole (Lotrimin), econazole (Spectazole), ketoconazole (Nizoral), miconazole (Monistat), sertaconazole (Ertaczo), sulconazole (Exelderm), terconazole (Terazol), tioconazole (Vagistat-1), or voriconazole (Vfend). Do not use fluconazole if you are also taking cisapride (Propulsid) or terfenadine (Seldane).
The common side effects include changes in taste, dizziness, headache, nausea, stomach pains.
If you ever experience any of these side effects please stop taking the medication and inform your doctor: severe allergic reactions (including rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing), diarrhea, swollen or tender abdomen, vomiting, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
