Indications:
Treatment & control of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to cause regression of the enlarged prostate, improve urinary flow & improve the symptoms associated w/ BPH. It is also indicated for prevention of urologic events.
How to take:
The recommended dose is 5 mg orally once a day. Proscar can be administered alone or in combination with the alpha-blocker doxazosin. This drug may be administered with or without meals. No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment or for the elderly. Do not take more Proscar than is indicated at the label without consulting a doctor. Continue to take this medicine even if you feel well, do not stop taking without talking to the doctor. Stopping this medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.
Precautions:
Crushed or broken tablets of Proscar should not be handled by women, when they are or may potentially be pregnant. Inform the doctor if large residual urine vol or severely diminished urinary flow; exclude prostate cancer.
